Living in Bennett, CO: What to Know Before You Move

by Chelsea Pruitt

Bennett keeps showing up on buyers' shortlists, and it's easy to see why. As Denver's growth pushes east along I-70, this once-sleepy plains town has become one of the corridor's most active small markets. If you're weighing a move, here's an honest look at what living in Bennett involves.

Why Bennett is growing

The short version: space and value. Bennett offers newer homes and larger lots at prices that have grown increasingly hard to find closer to the city, and it sits squarely in the direction metro Denver is expanding. New subdivisions are going in, and the town's school district now serves a widening footprint of development. For buyers, that combination — affordability now, growth ahead — is the whole pitch. You get a small-town address with a real shot at long-term appreciation.

The commute

Bennett works because the drive works. East Aurora is about half an hour on I-70, and Denver International Airport is a comparable hop, which makes the town especially popular with airport and east-metro employees. Plenty of remote and hybrid workers have landed here too, trading a daily slog for occasional trips and a lot more square footage at home.

Schools and community

Local students attend Bennett School District 29J. Bennett keeps the small-town rhythms that draw people in the first place — community parades, seasonal events, and the kind of place where you recognize faces at the grocery store. It's family-friendly by default, not by marketing.

Where to eat

Bennett eats well above its size. The High Plains Diner is the anchor — a true local institution that pulls travelers off the interstate for from-scratch comfort food and a slice of pie. For Mexican, Happy Burrito has a near-legendary reputation for its green chili, while Los Charros and the birria-focused La Única round out the options. There's even solid American-Chinese at Bennett Asian Café. For a town this size, you won't run out of go-to spots quickly.

What to know before you buy

Bennett's range is wide: a new-build in a subdivision, an established in-town home, and a multi-acre rural property are all "Bennett," but they come with very different price tags, utilities, and lifestyles. Acreage properties may rely on wells and septic; new construction comes with its own timelines and considerations. Because well-priced homes move quickly in a growing market, having an agent who tracks Bennett listings daily is a real advantage.
